Al-Awda San Diego
Event notice: "The
Right to Return and Geneva"
San Diego, CA - 6 January 2003 -- We are pleased to announce the formation of the
San Diego chapter of Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition. We are
proud to join more than 60 chapters in the United States, and the international community,
who are working to broaden public understanding of the plight of the Palestinian people.
To introduce ourselves to the San Diego activist community,
our first event will be a mini-teach-in to inform and clear up misconceptions
about the various 'agreements' to 'settle' the Palestine question
put forth by the US and Israel, from Camp David to the so called Geneva Accords.
Event Details:
Date: Saturday January 24
2004 beginning at 3 pm at the Malcolm X Library,
5148 Market Street, San Diego. Admission is free! All
are welcome and encouraged to attend this event in an effort to help foster
an understanding of a very serious issue that not only affects Palestinians,
but every American as well. About Al-Awda
Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition, is a broad- based, non-partisan, global, democratic association of grassroots activists and organizational representatives.
Our objective is to educate the international community to fulfill its legal and moral
obligations vis-à-vis the Palestinian people. Al-Awda develops, coordinates, supports and guides, as needed, global and local grassroots initiatives for action related to Palestinian rights. Our
advocacy includes the right of Palestinians to return to their homeland, and to full restitution of all their confiscated and destroyed property in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
International law and implementation of United Nations Resolutions which
uphold these rights.
• Al-Awda has established local chapters, more than 40 in the US and 20 in other countries. These chapters engage in local direct action and coordinate actions between chapters.
• Al-Awda has established specialized international action committees dealing with specific issues such as refugee support, events, media and outreach.
• Al-Awda maintains regional and local websites (e.g. New York, San Francisco, United Kingdom, Chicago) as well as refugee support and media websites (see http://www.Al-Awda.org).
Al-Awda is an activist, educational organization and the San Diego chapter looks forward to participating with other local activists on related issues.
