For immediate release
The fundamental right of Palestinians
to return to their homes, from which they were forcefully
removed, is under
constant threat. Recent efforts to undermine this right
have manifested themselves in many forms: the US-sponsored "road
map" initiative, the Ayalon-Nussiebeh Initiative,
the "Geneva Accord," and the refusal of the
international community at large, specifically the US
and the UN Security Council, to hold the Zionist state
to the tenets of UN resolutions, the Geneva Conventions,
and international and humanitarian law.
We invite you to join hundreds of Palestinian activists
and their supporters in New York City 16-18 April 2004
for Al-Awda's Second International Convention, "Sustainable
Struggle: The Road to Palestine."
There are sharp contrasts
between our vision of liberation, justice, and peace,
and a discourse based on apartheid,
segregation, walls and false peace initiatives. Our vision
is gaining grassroots support and fulfils the basic human
rights and wishes of native Palestinians, including millions
of refugees, for return and self determination. Palestine
has regained its rightful place in the anti-war movement
as the anchor of the struggle against colonialism world-wide.
During our convention, activists will
engage in a weekend of education, training, empowerment,
and continued building
of the movement for Palestinian self determination and
the right of return for all refugees to their original
homes, towns and villages.
