Film Synopsis:
In this unique, timely and moving film, Palestinians currently stranded in al-Tanaf and Al-Ruweished camps tell of their own personal experiences and what led them to flee Baghdad. Al-Tanaf camp is located in no man's land on the Syria Iraq border. Al-Ruweished detention camp is located on the Jordanian border. Unlike other refugees who have gone through this camp, most of the Palestinians have been there for four
years already. Subtitles in English. No Where to Flee is an October 2006 film by Adam Shapiro and Perla Issa.
Background
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 34,000 Palestinians lived in Iraq before the American invasion in 2003. Since then, about 19,000 have left the country because of harassment, threats of deportation, abuse by the media, arbitrary detention, torture and murder. Palestinian neighborhoods such as al-Hurriyya and al-Baladiyyat in Baghdad have been bombarded and attacked regularly since 2003. Hundreds of Palestinians who were forced to flee are now stranded in camps on the Syrian and Jordanian borders with nowhere to go. For further information on the current situation of these Palestinians, please go to factsheet.
