“Homeland Without Identity"

Synopsis: "Homeland Without Identity" is Part III of "Chronicles of a Refugee," a groundbreaking six part powerful and engaging documentary series by Perla Issa, Aseel Mansour and Adam Shapiro. The series is directly relevant to the Right to Return Movement and Al-Awda's advocacy for the implementation of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their lands and homes of origin.

Through interviews with Palestinians and archival footage, "Homeland Without Identity" zooms onto one of the major defining experiences of Palestinian refugees worldwide over the past 62 years, that of legal, social and political discrimination. This must see episode looks at such experiences, in the Arab and Western worlds and details how host governments have treated Palestinians primarily from a "security" perspective rather than from the perspective of fundamental human rights. There are many good lessons and warnings in the documentary stated by fellow Palestinians in their own words. These lessons must be learned and apply directly for example to the current ongoing relocation to the US of 1350 Palestinian refugees from Al-Waleed Camp located in Iraq on the border with Syria.

This documentary is very important and timely viewing for all who advocate for the Palestinian right to return and who correctly insist on keeping the Right to Return central to any discussion of the Palestinian cause.

Important Update: The film will be followed by discussion with Palestinian refugees recently moved by the US government and contracted refugee agencies to San Diego from Al-Waleed Refugee Camp in the Iraqi desert on the borders with Syria. They will be speaking directly about their experiences in Iraq as Palestinian refugees and about their move to the US. English translation will be provided.

From I-5, exit Palomar Airport Road and head East - make a left on Loker Avenue West (first left after you cross El Camino Real) and left into Carlsbad Crossroads business center (look for the large Carlsbad Crossroads sign). End 2734 Loker Avenue West Suite K.

From I-15, exit I-78 West. From I-78 exit San Marcos Blvd and head West. San Marcos Blvd becomes Palomar Airport Road when you enter Carlsbad. Loker Avenue West will be on your right, past the Melrose Drive and El Fuerte intersections. Other directions as above.

From El Camino Real, go East on Palomar Airport Road and make a (first) left on Loker Avenue West. Other directions as above.
