Action Alert: Demand Schwarzenegger Cancel Trip to Jerusalem
Museum of "Tolerance" To
Be Built on Stolen Palestinian Land
On May 2nd 2004 California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled
to take part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a museum that will be built on
Palestinian land in Jerusalem stolen by Israel from its rightful owners. The
project is funded by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which designated the museum
to be a "Museum of Tolerance" to promote "civility and tolerance among Jews,
and between Jews and non-Jews, including Arabs."
Since the site for the museum will be on confiscated Palestinian land, calling
it a "Museum of Tolerance" is blatantly hypocritical. Additionally, the Simon
Wiesenthal Center advocates an exclusively Jewish State and considers "dangerous" the
demand for the implementation of the inalienable right of Palestinian refugees
to return to their original homes and lands from which they were dispossessed
by Israel. This natural, legal and moral right to return is enshrined the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, International Law and numerous UN resolutions.
ACTION:
Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition in California calls on all people
of conscience to phone and write to California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
to demand that he cancel his planned trip to Jerusalem immediately.
TALKING POINTS:
- The proposed site for the so called "Museum of Tolerance" is
on confiscated Palestinian land. This land must be returned
to its rightful owners.
- The primary fiscal sponsor of the museum is the Simon Weisenthal
Center. This is hardly the sort of organization capable of
producing a "Museum of Tolerance" since
the Weisenthal Center advocacy for an exclusive Jewish Israeli State
is well known. The Weisenthal Center's position on the inalienable
rights of Palestinian refugees is contrary to the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, International Law and numerous
UN resolutions.
- Governor Schwarzenegger should cancel his trip to Jerusalem
forthwith.
